The purpose of the manual is to provide guidelines to the students, as well as to the teachers to achieve defined outcomes in this subject through learning and assessment. All the competencies mentioned in the index for the training of 2nd MBBS and Final MBBS (Part 1) students are documented in this manual. A complete recipe for the undergraduate students confirming the NMC curriculum for CBME.Logbook has also been added in the same book so that students dont have to carry two books.

  • This new and revamped “Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Log Book-cum-Practical Manual” has been customized as per the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) guidelines for the Indian medical graduate of NMC and covers the practical prescribed for the undergraduates in the subject of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
  • This book comprises of four sections, namely i. Section 1: Skills dealing with all the competencies as given in CBME curriculum under the topics of “Skills in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology” and “Certifiable Procedural Skills” of GMR 2019. ii. Section 2: Self-Directed Learning (SDL), iii. Section 3: Attitude, Ethics and Communication (AETCOM)iv. Section 4: Simulation Based Teaching (Skill lab), Vertical Integration and Seminar.
  • This is an inclusive manual which will serve to document the student’s academic activities—cases seen, examined, test performed, practical attended and done, etc., as well as SDL, AETCOM, and various other activities (seminars, vertical integration, etc.) as mandated by NMC. The students can be assessed in between and at the end of the semester.
  • This manual contains “shows”, “shows how”, and “performs” exercises for development of skills (psychomotor, communication, team work, and intellectual).
  • The practical sessions will also allow the students to observe a demonstration, assist the performer, perform (demonstrate) in simulated environment, perform under supervision, or perform independently (DOAP).
  • It is presented in a very simple and lucid language. Exercises are self-explanatory and need to be completed with appropriate answers.
  • Proformas and certificates are provided with hypothetical cases (paper case) so that the students take more interest in the subject and discuss with the facilitators.
  • Certificates, reports, and notifications issued by doctors for the purposes of various administrative requirements are given in detail.
  • Sample medicolegal report, postmortem report, and death certificate have been included for better understanding of these key practicals.
  • Clinical forensic medicine is the highlight of this manual. Examination of an individual for estimation of age, survivor examination in sexual assault/forced anal intercourse, examination of accused in sexual assault, poisoning, and drunkenness are given in detail and in structured format.
  • There are 15 proformas for postmortem examination, out of which 10 are structured so that the students learn to document the findings of postmortem examination properly and the remaining 5 is unstructured (as used in different states).
  • Colored images of toxicological specimens, various types of injuries, and histopathological slides have been included as per the NMC guidelines.
  • An innovative exercise “Project” to develop medico-legal case examination and academic writing for the students is included. In this exercise, a student is required to submit a case report (MLR/PMR), which she/he has worked upon during his/her posting in the emergency or mortuary.
